Treatment of petroleum refinery wastewater by adsorption using activated carbon fixed bed column with batch recirculation mode

Water pollution and the lack of access to clean water are general global problems that result from expansion industrial agricultural activities. Petroleum refinery wastewaters consider as a major challenge environment their treatment is mandatory. The present work concerns with removal chemical oxygen demand (COD) petroleum wastewater taken Iraq's Al-Diwaniyah plant by using an activated carb fixed-bed column operated at batch recirculation mode. fixed bed used in this was composed three sections: upper, central, bottom compartments. compartment serves feeding chamber central adsorption while upper collecting effluent chamber. By adopting response surface methodology (RSM), pacts various operational parameters such packing level, pH, time on COD efficiency were investigated. optimal conditions carbon level 80%, pH 5.7, 73 min approximately, which resulted 96.70%. results indicated had effect elimination followed minor effect. model equation's adequacy demonstrated its strong R2 value (0.975). study demonstrates system effective method for removingcondomODom wastewaters.
